Welcome to Death over Drafts!
I'm Stefanie, Death over Drafts Founder
As a family caregiver consultant and end-of-life doula, I strive to provide the best guidance and support for individuals and their families as well as a valued resource for the care team during life transitions.
However, our society does not always make it easy to have conversations around death. In an effort to change that, I am "drafting" a new narrative by combining my passions: craft beer and welcoming conversations through Death over Drafts!

Death over Drafts is a casual and fun community event to spark connection and is part of a growing movement to destigmatize important conversations on end-of-life.
Every Death over Drafts gathering has a different vibe based on who is co-crafting, aka hosting. While these gatherings provide an opportunity for those who serve in the end-of-life field to gather and reflect personally and professionally when you join us at a Death over Drafts gathering one thing is constant: all are welcome.
A terrific pairing with Death over Drafts is The Death Deck, a welcomed conversation starter that lets us explore a topic we’re all obsessed with but often afraid to discuss. Another Death over Drafts feature we are buzzed about are the strong Death over Drafts Hosts aka Co-Crafters and Collaborators of different types (ie: Hospices, Healthcare Conference, Film Screenings etc…). Stefanie’s passion for craft beer and holding conversations on end-of-life also includes tapping co-crafters across the county and world!

I am pleased to be part of a growing death-positive movement and to provide space, and a place to honor and support individuals, families, and each other.
I hope this inspires you to join our brewing end-of-life community!

Hoppy Beginnings
Death over Drafts started with a brewing vision to bring people together to create meaningful connections by combining two passions—craft beer and conversations on end-of-life.
Death over Drafts Founder, Stefanie Elkins along with Jill Schock, Death Doula LA had a collective Cheers in 2019, when the first ‘Crafting Your Narrative Happy Hour’ event was held in Berkeley, CA, as part of the Reimagine Festival-San Francisco Bay Area. The event was a very “hoppy” success and the idea evolved into Death over Drafts (Happy Hour) with events hosted around greater Los Angeles.
Soon after, in-person gatherings were put on a COVID pause and Stefanie pivoted. She poured her own pint glass at home and filled a new space by offering Death over Drafts gatherings via Zoom. Along with the encouragement and guidance of end-of-life colleagues/hosts, Stefanie facilitated informal, themed conversations and welcomed guest speakers who shared personal and professional stories to inspire and connect participants.
Although topics were very heavy, individuals were able to gather virtually with their beverage of choice (yes, we are inclusive of all libations and have fun while feeling a bit lighter with a sense of community and belonging.
By the end of 2021, Death over Drafts was back live and in-person with gatherings throughout greater Los Angeles breweries and a handful across the country. In-person and virtual gatherings provide a judgment-free platform attracting hundreds of people from the deathcare field and curious individuals, who come together to talk openly about aging, death, dying, and grief.
A terrific pairing with Death over Drafts is The Death Deck, a welcomed conversation starter that lets us explore a topic we’re all obsessed with but often afraid to discuss. Another Death over Drafts feature we are buzzed about are the strong Death over Draft Hosts aka Co-Crafters and Collaborators of different types (ie: Hospices, Healthcare Conference, Film Screenings etc…). Stefanie’s passion for craft beer and holding conversations on end-of-life also includes tapping co-crafters across the county and world!
There are many end-of-life professionals and breweries across the country that are ready to be tapped!
